Chippewa County Voters: Make Your Voice Heard on August 6th!

As the August 6th Primary Election approaches, residents of Chippewa County, Michigan, have the opportunity to cast their votes on two important millage proposals. These proposals will have significant implications for our community, impacting vital services that contribute to the well-being of both animals and senior citizens. Here’s a detailed look at each proposal and why your vote matters from www.vote411.org

Proposal 1: Chippewa County Animal Protection Millage

The first proposal on the ballot is the Chippewa County Animal Protection Millage. This measure aims to provide crucial funding for the Chippewa County Animal Shelter, ensuring that it can operate as a no-kill facility and provide essential care for the animals.

About This Measure:

Purpose: The funds from this millage will be used exclusively to ensure the shelter does not euthanize animals for space. It will also provide medical and supplemental care for the health, safety, and well-being of the animals housed at the shelter, as well as pet adoption assistance, including spaying and neutering, for community members.

Millage Rate: The proposal seeks to increase the tax limitation by .175 mill ($0.175 per $1,000 of taxable value) for a period of six (6) years (2025-2030).

Expected Revenue: If approved, the millage is estimated to raise $230,700 in the first year (2025).

Things to Consider:

1. Animal Welfare: This funding will ensure that no animal is euthanized due to a lack of space, providing them with a chance to find a loving home.

2. Community Support: The millage will also offer financial assistance for spaying and neutering, helping reduce the stray animal population and supporting pet owners who might struggle with these costs.

3. Enhanced Care: With proper funding, the shelter can provide comprehensive medical care, improving the overall health and well-being of the animals.

4. Animal Control services: The millage will not cover animal control services throughout the county.

5. Increased Milage from 0.099400 to 0.175 per $1,000 of taxable value an increase of about 8 cents. Your cost will increase as your property taxable value increases. (over time- the 6 years- you will pay more)

Proposal 2: Chippewa County Senior Services and Programs Millage

The second proposal is the Chippewa County Senior Services and Programs Millage. This measure seeks to renew the existing tax levy to continue funding essential services and programs for senior citizens in our community.

About This Measure:

Purpose: The renewal of this millage will provide operating funds for the Chippewa County Community Action Agency’s Senior Services and Programs, including Meals Programs and other senior services.

Millage Rate: The proposal seeks to renew the tax limitation at .75 mill ($0.75 per $1,000 of taxable value) for a period of four (4) years (2025-2028).

Expected Revenue: If approved, the millage is estimated to raise $989,000 in the first year (2025).

Things to Consider:

1. Support for Seniors: This funding is vital for continuing and enhancing programs that support the health, nutrition, and well-being of senior citizens in our community.

2. Meals Programs: The millage will help sustain and expand meals programs, ensuring that seniors receive nutritious meals regularly.

3. Community Services: With renewed funding, the Community Action Agency can continue providing a range of services that improve the quality of life for seniors, fostering independence and community engagement.

4. Tax Increase: None remains the same millage but your cost will increase as your property taxable value increases. (over time- the 4 years - you will pay more)

Your Vote Counts

These millage proposals represent investments in the community that YOU THE VOTER get to determine. The voter gets to decide if these items provide you value for living in our county. One of my concerns is that we have a millage for Pets and Seniors but we have nothing for a homeless shelter or Home Hospice Care. I Love pets, don't get me wrong, but we must prioritize the wellbeing of our people over our fur babies. Consider these things when you go to the polls on August 6th!

Together, we can ensure that Chippewa County continues to be a compassionate and supportive community for all its residents. Don’t miss your chance to make a difference – vote on August 6th!
